BIO

Zoe Rose de Paz (she/her) is an American musician, printmaker, visual artist, educator, activist, and songwriter. Her multimedia work combines music and visual artwork along with videography, dance, multiculturalism, healing, and spirituality.  As a trauma survivor, all of Zoe Rose’s work is a creative form of her advocacy for mental health awareness and PTSD’s destigmatization. All of her work is based in the cathartic process of unconditional self-acceptance. Her deeply personal lyricism and cathartic melodies are beloved by listeners worldwide. By blending traditional folk narratives with a fresh 21st century perspective, she dissects our own assumptions about love, identity, faith, ethnicity, politics, self, healing, and gender. The end result? Magic.

As a Queer woman born into a multicultural family, de Paz has always focused her work on the idea of “the other” and untold stories. De Paz harnesses her art as a means to shine lights on different perspectives, as well as to heal. Raised in both the Celtic and Latinx diasporas of the United States, de Paz combines multiple genres and musical traditions including Celtic, Folklorico, Blues, Punk, Soul, and Americana. Just like her own roots, it takes blending multiple histories to arrive at de Paz’s unique sound.

She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Art History from The School of The Museum of Fine Arts (SMFA) at Tufts University. De Paz is the owner of STUDIO DEPAZ, an online printshop for intaglios, woodcuts, linocuts, screenprints, and monoprints. She was a gold and silver medalist for Boston Globe’s Scholastic Art Awards. De Paz was a 2005-2006 Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange Scholarship Award recipient. Her love of learning has taken her around the world to study at The Edinburgh College of Art at the University of Edinburgh, the Albertinum Gymnasium music school in Germany, the University of Johannesburg, South Africa, and I.S.A. in Havana, Cuba. Her visual artwork is available for sale online under STUDIO DEPAZ.

MUSIC

music saves lives.

Zoe Rose is an Americana/Roots musician and has played the fiddle since she was 6 years old. She grew up playing traditional New England folk music (Contra, Irish, and Old Time fiddle) in the hills of Western Massachusetts where she studied with Susan Conger, Jay Ungar & Molly Mason, and David Kaynor. Zoe Rose moved to Boston in 2013 and started to perform her original music shortly after through the Open Mic, D.I.Y., and underground punk scene in the city. These communities of musicians and artists are an integrally important part of de Paz’s music and her ability to cope with chronic depression, anxiety, and PTSD. De Paz is an active member of the underground arts scene where she uses her work to shine a light on suicide prevention, sexual assault prevention, mental health advocacy, mental illness destigmatization, and self love.

Through her many bands and diverse musical projects over the last 10 years, Zoe Rose has been humbled to share the stage with the likes of Calvin Arsenia, Karen Tweed, Daryl Anger, Donna Hebért, Bob Pycior (of O’Death), Ramshackle Glory, Rent Strike, Justin Arena, Hawthorn, Evan Greer, Opposition Rising, Pat The Bunny, Days N Daze, Matt Pless, Cousin Boneless, Blackbird Raum, Michael Doucet (of BeauSoleil), Cactus Attack, Town Meeting, and the Charles Overton Group among others. She has recorded with Naomi Westwater, Absinthe Rose, The Michael Character, Out of System Transfer, Prateek, The Hills and The Rivers, among many others.
